What is the Crimestoppers Bureau?
The Crimestoppers Bureau is a contact (or call) centre run by Crimestoppers – an independent UK-wide charity working to stop crime. The Crimestoppers Bureau answers calls to the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 number, on behalf of the entire UK police force, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The infrastructure in place at the Bureau will be used to facilitate The Integrity Line.

Who will answer calls to The Integrity Line?
Calls to The Integrity Line will be answered by a dedicated team of agents based at the Crimestoppers Bureau. They will be trained specifically in Professional Standards issues and will answer each call, “You are through to The Integrity Line.”

What is meant by anonymous?
Anonymity ensures no personal details of the caller are recorded. Our agents will sanitise the information they are given to ensure that any identifying details are removed. Callers to The Integrity Line will be given a unique id reference so that information coming from the same person can be identified and collated.

Can The Integrity Line take confidential information?
All calls to The Integrity Line are anonymous (involving no personal information) – just as they are with Crimestoppers. If no information about a caller is held, it cannot be disclosed in court. However our agents will, if appropriate, ask callers if they would be willing to forego their anonymity. If the caller is comfortable with this, personal details will be passed confidentially to the force’s Professional Standards unit. It is also possible for the caller to talk directly to the staff in the Professional Standards unit. This would be facilitated by the Integrity Line via a three-way-call, but only if the caller agrees.

Crimestoppers offers rewards. Does The Integrity Line?
No rewards will be offered in connection with The Integrity Line.

Does The Integrity Line accept information via e-mail?
Information can be sent via this website securely to the Integrity Line - Online Anonymity
Crimestoppers is developing a one-to-one chat facility which would be accessed via the internet and managed at the Crimestoppers Bureau. The facility is planned for 2006 and will be made available for users of The Integrity Line.
